This Dame Cooks A Collection of Recipes from Alaska to the South Pacific and Caribbean

About

joann1This blog is full of simple recipes I’ve collected from Alaska to the South Pacific and the Caribbean.  Old family recipes and some new gourmet recipes for preserves and condiments round out the categories and the eclectic array.

I’m passionate about fresh organic ingredients and just like my mother, I love cooking for a crowd and preserving for a cold winter’s day.   I hope you’ll enjoy these recipes and make them yours.  Your comments are always welcomed.

Some of the more interesting roles I’ve played include charter cook in the Caribbean, accountant and tax preparer in Alaska and the Pacific NW, restaurateur in the South Pacific islands, TV cooking show presenter in Tonga, sous chef in New Zealand, editor and writer for a coffee shop publication in Puget Sound, and owner of a sandwich shop and espresso bar in Gig Harbor, WA.

Currently, I am retired and live in Rincon on the Western side of Puerto Rico.  I stay busy gardening, pickling and preserving the local produce, cooking Puerto Rican dishes, recycling plastic shopping bags and old t-shirts into rugs, giving crochet classes at the local Arts & Crafts Gallery,  and from time to time I sell my goodies at the Farmer’s Market in the Plaza de Rincon. Reading is also a passion of mine so I have turned my veranda into a book-exchange, open 3 days a week.    There’s always plenty to do and try when you have a creative side that yearns for fulfillment.

  1. Hi JoAnn-
I wanted to share with you the newest cookbook from Mary Ann Esposito, author of the Ciao Italia cookbook series which has been previously mentioned on your blog! I would be happy to send a sampler of some of the recipes included in Ciao Italia Family Classics, a beautiful new cookbook (400 full color pages!) coming from Mary Ann in October if you think that this is something you or your readers might be interested in. The design and layout are beautiful, and it includes many never before seen Italian classics.

  2. Thank you Kym,

Yes I’d be happy to review the sample recipes and promote the Mary Ann’s
new book. She is one of my mentors for Italian cooking. I still make
little bears every Xmas from her recipe and they are treasured by all.

I wish her much success with the new cookbook.

    sincerely,
    Joann

  3. Wonderful- thank you Joann! Could you email me an adress to send the sample to?
